Warm Home Discount
The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a government scheme that gives extra help to people struggling with their energy bills. It’s regulated by Ofgem and if you’re eligible, you could get up to £140 off your electricity bill for winter 2019 to 2020. This money will not be paid to you directly. It's a one-off discount on your electricity bill, between September and March. You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity. The discount will not affect your cold weather payment or winter fuel payment.
See more information about the Warm Home Discount Scheme here.
Winter Fuel Payment
The Winter Fuel Payment is a government scheme to help pensioners cover their heating bills. If you were born before or on the 5th April 1954, you could get between £100 and £300 in winter to go towards your energy payments. For more information and to see if you're eligible, please click here.
Cold Weather Payment
If the temperature drops below 0°C for seven back-to-back days between November and March, and you're on certain state benefits, the government will help you with your energy bills. This is a £25 payment known as a cold weather payment, and comes on top of the Winter Fuel Payment.
You don't have to apply for the cold weather payment. If you're eligible, the money will be paid to you automatically. You can find out more here.
