Car insurance offers financial protection if your car is stolen, you're involved in an accident, or it's damaged, for example in a fire.

Your car insurance policy will outline exactly what is covered. If anything happens to your car or you're involved in an accident, you can make a claim to your car insurance provider. If the costs are covered in your policy, the provider will cover the payments needed in the specific situation.

As well as covering your vehicle, car insurance covers you for any damage you might cause to other vehicles and people, plus to other people’s property.

Car insurance is a legal requirements if you own a car in the UK. If you're the main driver, it's your responsibility to get car insurance.
